A Young Researcher's Perspective
- Katie at the MNI
This past summer, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to start working on multiple sclerosis research in the Colman Lab at the Montreal Neurological Institute, under Dr. David R. Colman, Director of the MNI, for my grade 11 science fair project. Once school began in September, I continued my research at the lab until January, spending on average least 10 hours a week at the lab after school hours. There was a lot to learn, but what an incredible experience it was! I got to work with well-known scientists in a real-life lab, and in a world-renowned institute! During my time at the Neuro, I had the chance to do many cell cultures, run various experiments by myself, and analyze my results with the most high-tech equipment in the industry.

Thank you to Dr. Ajit Dhaunchak, Omar de Faria Junior, and Wiam Belkaid for allowing me to be part of this experiment, and for their help and guidance throughout the project!
A special thank you to Dr. David Colman for allowing me to work in his lab, and for his motivation and encouragement to take on this experiment!
